Taking care of your fine jewelry properly will reward you with a lifetime of pleasurable wear.


Jewelry worn regularly collect residue caused by soaps, makeup, perfume, exposure to skin, and other chemicals, therefore need to be cleaned periodically.

It is best to put jewelry on after makeup and hair products are applied.

Avoid wearing jewelry in salt water, this can be damaging to the protective coatings and adhesives.

Some gemstones may fade when exposed to sunlight or if worn in a tanning bed.

Jewelry should not be worn when it can be susceptible to damage, such as when playing sports, doing household chores etc... .


SOAP & WATER:

Some jewelry cleaning products can be harmful to certain types of gems, so warm water and a mild soap used with a soft brush can be used to take care of your jewelry. Dry off jewelry with a soft lint-free cloth.

Do not use soap and water to clean: opal, turquoise, coral, jade, emerald, lapis lazuli and kunzite.

Do not use ammonia or alcohol to clean jewelry these cleaners will damage certain gemstones and plating on all types of precious metals. Although, ammonia solutions and alcohol solutions can be used to clean diamond jewelry.


JEWELRY CLEANING PRODUCTS:

Check with your jeweler before using any commercial products, some can be harmful to your jewelry.

Dispose all cleaners after 3 months.

Ultrasonic cleaners are best for cleaning precious metals, without gemstones. Vibrations when using ultrasonic cleaners may cause gemstones to loosen.


OPALS:
To preserve their beauty, opals must be treated with care. It is important to keep opals away from heat and all chemicals and solutions. If an opal looses its moisture, it may form cracks.


PEARLS:
Cultured pearls are sensitive to chemicals, such as hairspray, perfume etc..., they should be the last thing that you put on and the first thing you take off. Pearls can be cleaned with a mild soap and warm water. Before storing pearls, clean and dry them. Do not use a toothbrush to clean them. They should be stored in a special chamois pouch, where they will be safe.


TANZANITES:
Tanzanites should not be put in ultrasonic cleaners. For best care a mild solution of warm water with a mild cleaner and a soft toothbrush.


EMERALDS:
Emeralds tend to be brittle, so they should not be put in ultrasonic machines or be steamed cleaned. Avoid rapid temperature changes and any type of chemicals. The best way to keep your emerald jewelry cleaned is with warm water and a very soft toothbrush.


DIAMONDS:
Diamonds have a tendency to collect grease and oils, so they need to be cleaned periodically to keep them shining and beautiful. A safe way to clean a diamond is to soak it in warm water with a mild liquid detergent. Then it should be dried with a soft lint-free cloth. Ethyl alcohol, ammonia solutions and jewelry cleaning solutions may also be used to clean diamond jewelry. Alcohol and ammonia may damage other types of gemstones and precious metals.


It is best to store each piece of jewelry in a separate compartment or box to prevent scratches. Gems improperly stored may scratch each other.
